Learn more about Bronwyn

Favourite place in the world?
Whitehaven, The Whitsunday’s

Favourite food?
Just about all foods! I have to confess I have a real sweet tooth and love vanilla slices, cheesecake and lollies. During competition these aren’t in my diet, I love yogurt with fresh berries.

Favourite colour?
Silver or pink or blue or black – depends on my mood and what the colour is on.

Right or left-handed?
Right-handed.

Any pets?
Finn – he’s the coolest dog, he’s a Rottweiler cross Border Collie. I’m also looking after my mother-in-law’s dog at present.

Hidden talents?
My appetite is huge and I’d back myself in most eating competitions

If you could have dinner with any three people, who would they be?
Jonathon Edwards (world record holder in triple jump, awesome athlete, inspiration to so many and he would have so much to offer any jumper), Richard Branson (another very successful and inspirational person who is a self-made entrepreneur) and Jason Chipperfield (my husband – so he could share the experience with me).

How old were you when you started athletics?
I’ve been running since grade one when I broke my sister’s 50m record but I didn’t start Little Athletics until I was 13.

What music are you currently listening to?
I like the Ministry of Sound Chillout and Annual albums, I listen to Triple J while I’m driving.

Favourite sport outside of athletics?
Nothing formal, I prefer to play than spectate – rollerblading, weights, swinging at the golf driving range, and at the moment, playing modified hackie-sack (with a bigger ball) with my workmates during my lunch-break.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you bring?
My husband, a plane and a pilot ï?Š

What do you like most about being an elite athlete?
1. The friendships I’ve formed
2. Channeling my competitive spirit
3. There are so many things that are great about athletics – the self-satisfaction of success, making my parents and those close to me proud, the thrill of competing, the feeling of flying, the passion and desire that athletics develops within me, the travel.

Something not many people know about you?
I get really bad motion sickness – I could never be a discus or hammer thrower because I couldn’t handle the spinning.

Favourite quote?
Winning isn’t everything in sport. It’s the journey that’s important, not the destination.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Probably still working within physiotherapy – maybe in a managerial role and building a tribe including a couple of dogs, maybe a cat and a few chickens (those who know me well know I call children “chickens). I’m not sure what role I will have in athletics yet.

Best advice for up and coming long jumpers/athletes?
1. Run Fast. Jump Long!
2. Love competing and love the feeling you get from the crowd
3. Find balance in your life so you can focus on athletics

If you could change one thing about your sport what would it be?
Probably the amount of publicity for athletics in Australia. I believe that if we had more publicity then more children would want to participate in the sport. Athletics has so many different events which make it a sport for just about everyone.

Proudest moment?
Winning Gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
